Walt Disney World Vacation - Part 1

Monday, 11-1-10

The first week of November, we traveled to Florida for our first family vacation to Disney World! We were very excited for Amy to have her first experience of the wonderful world of Disney...the characters, the rides, the princesses, the atmosphere. Secretly, though, I think Kurt was more excited than Amy! We talked with Amy before the trip about all of the characters and the princesses, but we weren't sure how Amy would respond to everything. Let's face it, Disney World can be a tad overwhelming for the average adult, let alone a little girl. However, during our entire time there, Amy did great. She was so excited to see the princesses that the minute we arrived at our hotel, she was asking about the princesses!

We stayed at Pop Century, one of the resorts on Disney's property. We took advantage of the transportation that Disney provided to and from the different parks and attractions. The hotel had two different pools - one even in the shape of a bowling pin! The resort was laid out in different era's, i.e., 50s, 60s, all the way up to the 90s. They had different memorabilia in each of the era's, i.e., a huge Rubix Cube in the 80s. It was neat to see the different items they had each era.

On Tuesday, we had breakfast with some of the characters and then headed to Animal Kingdom. On Wednesday, we had a "down" day and spent some time at Downtown Disney and played in the pool. On Thursday, we spent the day at Magic Kingdom. I'll write more about Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom later.

One of Amy's favorite parts of the trip was all of the princesses! In the gift shops, there were so many princess dresses - she fell in love with all of them! Amy was excited to get an autograph book so that all of the princesses could sign it for her.

Throughout our stay at Disney, Amy worse the one princess dress that we had brought with us - literally, she wore the dress every single day! Luckily, the dress was big enough that we were able to have her wear a new (aka, clean!) dress underneath the princess dress each day. Amy just loved wearing her princess dress daily and thought it was the coolest thing to be able to do so!

As mentioned, Wednesday, we had a down day. We went to Downtown Disney in the morning. We rode the carousel and a little train, though the carousel was Amy's favorite by far! We also looked through the different stores and bought a few souvenirs, including Amy's favorite princess necklace - Sleeping Beauty. Amy continues to love jewelry and she loved looking at all of the different necklaces and bracelets, especially the ones with princesses on them! I'm not exactly sure why Sleeping Beauty is Amy's favorite princess. Amy has never seen any of the princess videos. We've read Cinderella a few times, but haven't really read any other princess stories. However, for some reason, Amy simply fell in love with Sleeping Beauty...maybe because she wears a pink dress and we all know that Amy loves pink & purple!

Waiting at the airport for our flight to Florida
Amy was so excited to see all of the palm trees for some reason!
Amy finally got to see a princess...
Giving Sleeping Beauty a hug
Amy thought Pooh's honey was going to fall on her!

Riding her favorite ride at Downtown Disney, though I don't think Daddy enjoyed it as much as Amy!!
I will write more later about our fun times at Animal Kingdom and Magic Kingdom!!
