Indiana Sweet Corn
Monday, 8-30-10
This summer, we have been enjoying sweet Indiana corn that we get at our local farmer's market. This is the first summer that Amy has had the enjoyment of eating corn off the cob...and she loves it! I had been cutting the corn off the cob for her to eat, though she was very curious watching Kurt & I eat the corn directly off the cob. So, I offered her some and she went to town on it!! She enjoyed it so much and one night actually ate an entire ear of corn by herself! The pictures below are of her first actual experience of eating the corn off the cob - I should note that Amy didn't actually eat all of the corn off this ear, I had already cut some of it off!

Washing Dishes
Monday, 8-30-10
For the past several weeks, Amy has offered to wash the dishes...or "help" me with the dishes. Initially, I thought she wanted to do this with me, but I quickly realized that she really wanted to do it on her own. This typically occurs in the morning, especially when she notices me at the sink. She runs to get a chair, pushing it quickly across the room as she tells me that she is going to "help wash dishes." Amy enjoys "washing" the dishes and moving the water from one sink to another. The following pictures were taken one morning after breakfast with Amy still wearing her jammies along with her always-present cowgirl hat!!

Homecoming Day

My dream came true two years ago today when I became mommy to the most beautiful, caring, and loving little baby girl. I have loved watching her grow and learn into a beautiful, caring, loving, curious, and funny little toddler girl. She stole my heart two years ago and hasn’t returned it yet! :) It is amazing how hearing the words, “I love you,” from your 2 ½ year old can brighten your day and bring such a joy into your heart.
Two years ago today, our lives changed forever. I remember that day so clearly as if it had happened yesterday. I remember the excitement and the sheer joy. I remember the nerves and anxiety. I remember the pain and agony.
I was so happy and excited to bring Amy home. I couldn't wait to love on her and play with her and simply gaze at her. I also was more than a little nervous. Did I really know what I was doing in terms of raising a little one?? I also had so much pain for Amy's birth family. They clearly loved her and took such excellent care of her. I hated to see the pain in their eyes and know that the pain and loss they were experiencing were at my gain. I wanted to take their pain and grief away, though I knew that I couldn't do anything for them...other than love on Amy. I feel God truly blessed us with Amy and that D & D were a gift from God to Amy and to us.
We love to celebrate Amy’s homecoming day. Yesterday, we told Amy that today would be her special day and again told her the story of little baby Amy and the day we met her. Today, we made cupcakes to celebrate the day including sprinkles – Amy’s favorite part! Amy carried the sprinkles around since we bought them yesterday! She is such a joy and I could go on and on about her! We love that we have the privilege of watching her grow up and can’t wait to see what new adventures come her way!

Video Dress

Have I mentioned how much Amy loves to wear dresses? She frequently asks to wear a dress when she's getting dressed in the morning. She also has her "dress-up" dresses, which she enjoys putting on from time to time. Well, apparently she now has a "video" dress! For the last couple of times that she has watched a video, Amy has wanted to wear this dress. It's a pretty dress, and of course she looks adorable in it. She says that she wants to wear the dress to "be like Dora." Amy has "Dancing Dora" video where Dora wears a fancy dress at the end of the video. Well, Amy wants to be just like Dora, so she has to change into the dress in order to watch the video. I didn't realize that this dress also was required for any video that she watched! She is such a joy!!

Grandma Meyer's Birthday

This past weekend, we traveled to Jasper to help Grandma Meyer celebrate her birthday (even though her birthday isn't until this Thursday). Amy was excited to learn that we would be visiting with Grandma & Grandpa Meyer, clearly remembering the rocking horse that she rode on when we visited them at Easter.
Amy loved having Grandma read to her as well as play with her! She enjoyed searching the house for little treasures! We had to take her pink cowboy hat so she could wear it while riding the rocking horse! Amy simply giggled when Grandpa wore her cowboy hat!! She had to wear her other hat so that they both had hats on to get their pictures taken. By the way, you will see in the pictures that Amy doesn't have clothes on - these pictures were taken right after lunch when Amy thought she should take her clothes off to make sure they didn't get messy (I'm not sure where she gets that from!!). :)
Amy was sad to leave, but excited to hear that Grandma & Grandpa would be coming up to visit us this coming weekend along with Aunt Cheryl & Aunt Donna!!

Birthday Weekend

Last weekend was my birthday. What's a perfect gift for me? Hearing Amy yell, "Happy Birthday, Mommmmmy!" about a hundred times throughout the day!! Seriously, does it get any better than that? Well, maybe having a little ice cream with my girl!!
